To get in the Christmas spirit, Steve & I decided to go in the mountains above Idaho City Sunday, to hunt for OUR FIRST Christmas tree.
Steve spots the Christmas Tree, pulls his gun out and SHOOTS...
After reminding him that hunting a Christmas tree doesn't involve using guns, he runs to capture our "uniquely, perfect, bizarre, BONZAI" Christmas tree.
I begin the cutting down of our tree... although after a few tiring seconds, my tough mountain man finishes...
And single handedly DRAGS the tree down the mountain. This was the funniest thing to witness... Steve RUNNING down the steep mountain with this horribly shaped Christmas tree behind him. I was dying of laughter!
But he successfully made it down to the road! Triumphantly!
I'm not sure how we got this beast shoved into the truck, but we should have realized then that it was going to be WAY TOO big for the house.
OUR TREE! After cutting 2 feet off the truck and a struggle getting the tree upright, here it is!
Just like we pictured... UNIQUE!
We spent another hour or MORE shaping this tree into our o-so-perfect Bonzai Christmas Tree. Why go with the traditional shape?
Proud and exhausted Steve. Lights are on, it's looking better!
So here it is... The Steve & Shay Family Bonzai Christmas Tree!!
Although i have to say the more we decorated it, the uglier it got. Maybe this one looked best in the mountains. But the experience was memorable!
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
Till we meet again...

Oh tannenbaum! I've been checking your blog, hoping to see "the tree!" I really like it, it's unique and must smell much better than my fake one!
I REALLY like it!!! I think it looks great, and i'm not just saying that!!! We got a tree up CowCamp Road...it's seen better days, and OUR would have been better off in the mountains!!! our kids keep pulling it over, and the poor thing looks like it's been through a war!!! I think I like this better...no low branches, and definately memorable!!! AWESOME!
LOL!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to see that beauty in person! Leave to Steve & Shay....hahahha.
And a tradition was born!
I was laughing out loud as I witnessed your tree escapade unfold, bringing my husband running in from the kitchen (he was cooking me dinner, as all good husbands do...are you paying attention, little bro?).
Ha ha ha That is the funniest thing that I have ever seen! ha ha Shay I sure do miss seeing you! When is the big day? We should get together soon so you can meet my little boy! Miss seeing you! Heide
i TOTALLY thought of you, yet again today, as Ryan was un-decorating and dismantling our war-gone hero of a tree...Tanner and Taylor pulled it over four times today!!! I was "this" close to buying a fake one, when I though I could turn ours into a bonzi tree with four arms on top, shaving the bottom 12 branches, but settled on a gi-normous tree stand that hopefully will withstand our young children...we'll see.
very well described Shay! Lots of suspense in this heroic tale of man vs. tree. I am so glad you prevailed.
Kidding aside, i was laughing out loud reading about it. The tree looks lovely and i can't wait to see it soon.
OH MY WOW. You guys are absolutly out of CONTROL. I didn't realize that Steve was as weird as you... it's nice to know there actually is someone else out there like you and you've found him for a mate:). Ha ha, it sounds like you had fun in the process though! Merry Christmas... Can't wait to be able to actually see you!
How fun!! I LOVE the tree!! Anyone with such creativity has a spot in my book! :-) Wish you were here to make mine look nice. You'll have to take what you get :-) See you soon!
Love ya sweets,
mom
